Niebuhr, Reinhold
(21 jun. 1892, Wright City, Mo., EE.UU.–1 jun. 1971, Stockbridge, Mass.).

Teólogo estadounidense. Hijo de un ministro evangélico, estudió en Eden Theological Seminary y Yale Divinity School. Fue ordenado en el sínodo evangélico de Norteamérica en 1915 y fue pastor de la Iglesia evangélica Bethel en Detroit, Mich., hasta 1928. Sus años en esa ciudad industrial lo transformaron en un crítico del capitalismo y defensor del socialismo. Desde 1928 hasta 1960 enseñó en el Union Theological Seminary de Nueva York. Entre sus escritos más influyentes, que criticaron enérgicamente el pensamiento protestante liberal e hicieron hincapié en la persistencia del mal en la naturaleza humana y las instituciones sociales, se cuentan Hombre moral y sociedad inmoral (1932), La naturaleza y el destino del hombre, 2 vol. (1941–43), y The Self and the Dramas of History [El yo y los dramas de la historia] (1955).
